To celebrate the launch of the insightful Tech Nation Report, Tech City, a company accelerating the growth of the UK’s digital economy, are holding national roadshows in 7 key UK cities. On Tuesday 28th March, YellowDog’s founder, Gareth, took a seat on the Bristol panel alongside other instrumental tech leaders in the South West; Ultrahaptics, Mass Challenge UK, Oracle Cloud and Tech City UK.
The Tech Nation Report was published on 23rd March 2017, providing exclusive insight into what’s driving the digital sector in the UK, and a closer look at what’s happening in growth hubs across the country. The roadshow celebrates the UK digital tech sector as one of the country’s economic success stories, growing twice as fast as the wider economy and creating highly skilled workers and well-paid jobs.
With technical expertise in aerospace and a history of microchip design, Bristol and Bath’s burgeoning digital tech cluster has deep roots. Global businesses from these sectors are based in the region and digital skills are developed at the region’s four well-respected universities. Bristol and Bath with a digital tech turnover of £8.1bn, make up 5% of the UK’s total turnover, presenting an impressive 87% growth in the last 5 years. The region is also one of the most concentrated in terms of tech businesses, with nearly 36k jobs in the digital industry.
Gareth Williams, CEO at YellowDog commented: “I’m delighted I could be part of the inaugural Tech Nation tour, especially after the report highlighted such impressive growth for the Bristol & Bath tech cluster. It’s the perfect location for YellowDog and I’m very much looking forward to how we grow alongside many other quality businesses in the region.”
Tech City will celebrate the growth of digital tech across the UK over the last 12 months in Bristol, London, Newcastle, Cambridge, Birmingham, Edinburgh and Liverpool. Each free event will delve into themes uncovered by the report to discuss the opportunities and challenges for the future of the digital economy.
